Our current understanding of Vitex is that it has a supporting and regulating effect upon the pituitary gland. The pituitary is known as the “master gland” because it controls many vital bodily functions such as sending chemical signals to the ovaries, telling them how much hormones to make. This communication is known as the hormonal feedback loop.
Actions: Pituitary support, Dopamine agonist, Galactagogue, emmenagogue, LH agonist,(binds to receptor tom produce response) FSH antagonist (resists), prolactin antagonist, hepatoprotective, antiseptic, anaphrodisiac, Hormone normalizer
Uses: Progesterone deficiency, Luteal phase defects, Excess prolactin, excess estrogen, sore breasts before menses due to excess estrogen, endometriosis, PMS, irregular menses, infertility, coming off of birth control.
Dose: low acting use for 3-6 months Tincture- 2-3 mms 1x/day (same time a day)
